In this blog we will see, as part of our Healthcare Initiative, how we endeavor to assist in the process of delivering quality and safe care, thereby improving the workflow as well as efficiency at hospitals.
Electronic prescription or e-prescribing (e-Rx) is the computer-based electronic generation, transmission and filling of a medical prescription, taking the place of paper and faxed prescriptions. It electronically accesses patient’s health information such as medical history, drug allergies etc. With E-Prescription it is possible for the provider to administer the use of generics and other low cost medications. E-prescribing applications have the potential to check the databases for appropriate prescribing guidelines, the patient’s complete medication profile for drug interactions, and the patient’s electronic medical record for disease contradictions. This allows the provider to review the patient's past medical records while he or she is still in the office and to request additional information from the patient if necessary. This feature enables to reduce the risks associated with traditional prescription script writing. The most obvious benefit here is increased convenience for patients. Prescription orders sent via fax or electronically to pharmacies make it possible for patients to arrive at the pharmacy and have their prescription orders waiting for them. With this feature of electronic prescription, prescribing accuracy and efficiency gets highly improved.
