Asset Management

Consider these situations commonly observed in hospitals:

1) What is common between infusion pumps and taxi cabs? There are hundreds in circulation, but you can never find one when you need one.

2) With large number of patients being handled everyday in hospitals, how do you keep a tab on your patients? As for example, if a patient is trying to access a restricted area, how can you find about it?

There is always a crowd of things and people going around in a hospital that needs to be tracked. There are doctors, nurses, patients, and visitors who need to be kept track of. There is equipment that needs to be prevented from getting stolen. One of the biggest challenges in asset-intensive industries is how to effectively manage all their different types of asset. These organizations must deal with  physical assets that require ongoing maintenance and repair. Managing human resources—the most valuable asset of all—comes with its own special set of challenges

Coming back to the answer to the above two questions, is use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). It is an Automated Data Collection technology that makes use of radio waves to transfer data between a reader and a movable item to identify, categorize and track. It is fast and does not require physical contact between the reader/scanner and the tagged item. Along with tracking the devices, this technology or data could be used in monitoring important events or generating alerts for the devices.

With MED365 Asset Management System, we are trying to find a viable solution for synchronously tracking and monitoring health care devices.
